Are you dedicated to helping individuals with learning, developmental or cognitive disabilities? Are you a compassionate person who loves seeing people improve? Special education majors learn how to advocate for their students and develop individualized curriculum plans.
Special education majors at Northwest are eligible to teach special education students in kindergarten through twelfth grade, first through sixth grades and any other places where needed.
Students explore the characteristics of children with cognitive disabilities to determine appropriate evidence-based teaching strategies. Special education majors also learn how to collaborate with other teachers to best meet the needs of their students.

Did you know you also can minor in special education? This 18-credit-hour program provides undergraduate students with coursework on instructional practices to support the achievement of students with disabilities in inclusive environments.
